In his beautiful book Life of the Beloved, Fr. Henri Nouwen wrote that in sharing meals with his L’Arche community, he would begin by taking the bread, blessing it, breaking it, and giving it. Using this as a metaphor, he described four movements of the inner life by which we claim and step into our lives of service, nourishment, and healing to the world.
In this 4-hour workshop, we will explore these four movements: being taken (called, chosen), experiencing ourselves as blessed, the inevitable human experience of being broken, and taking the brokenness under the blessing so we may be given.
If you are preparing for ordination or feeling moved to recommit to and deepen your capacity to be of spiritual service, this exploration of how we become “bread for the world” could not be more timely, relevant, and nourishing.
